Kalika Hospital in Padampur, Chitwan, Nepal serves as the only city hospital for Kalika Municipality. Originally established about 30 years ago as Jutpani Health Center, the hospital now provides care to residents across Kalika Municipality, portions of Ratnanagar Municipality, and Ward 7 of Ichhakamana Rural Municipality. Together, this service area includes approximately 60,000 people.
Each day, the hospital sees an average of about 300 patients, including those visiting the outpatient department. Many of the patients served rely on Nepal’s governmental health insurance program, making the hospital an essential access point for affordable care in the region.
A significant need at the hospital is improved diagnostic imaging. Current X-ray and ultrasound services are in high demand, with an average of 172 patients needing these services each day. However, the existing X-ray and ultrasound equipment is aging, slow, and limited in performance, making it difficult for the hospital to provide the level of reliable diagnostic support patients need.
To address this need, a project is now being implemented to help provide Kalika Hospital with modern, higher-performing X-ray and ultrasound equipment. This improvement will allow more patients to receive reliable imaging services directly at the hospital, reducing the need to travel to Bharatpur Hospital for diagnostic care. For patients and families, this means less time, lower transportation costs, and faster access to treatment decisions.
Kalika Hospital already provides important services for the surrounding community, including general care, minor surgical services, care for children and pregnant women, orthopedic support, and birthing services that have been operating since 2015. Strengthening the hospital’s diagnostic capacity will help support these existing services and improve care for some of the region’s most vulnerable patients.
By helping equip Kalika Hospital with dependable imaging technology, this project supports better health outcomes, improves access to care, and reduces the burden on families who would otherwise need to travel for services that can be provided locally.
